Simply the Best Garden Route Tour

TOUR C16 – SIMPLY THE BEST GARDEN ROUTE TOUR (2 nights – price upon request)

PE – Oudsthoorn – PE – Cape Town (choice of 4 routes)

DAY 1:  08h00

Leave PE for Tsitsikamma Forest Area. Pause for tea along the Garden Route, and then explore the impressive Storms River Gorge, followed by a 500m walk in the forest to the 800-year old ‘Tsitsikamma Big Tree.’  Visit Storms River Adventures at the village and afterwards enter the Storms River National Park on the rugged coast, to watch the spray as waves pound the rocks, explore Bushmen Caves and enjoy stunning views. This is followed by mountain vistas near the world’s highest bungee at the Blaaukrantz Bridge. Lunch is enjoyed in this beautiful area.

Journey on, via the Groot River Pass, to Nature’s Valley, where you leave footprints in the sand. After passing Kurland Estate en route,  Plettenberg Bay, the Baia Formosa, is your next pause. Here one enjoys some of the best views in the world – towards Robberg, and over Look-out Beach. Next check into your lodge in Knysna and prepare for a scenic sunset-cruise towards The Heads on the estuary. This is followed by a superb dinner.

Overnight at Aestas or Knysna Manor

DAY 2:  –  08h00

Leave Knysna for the Railway Museum in George, then on to  the Diaz Museum where one also sees the Post Office Tree and a replica of the Portuguese caravel which was the first European ship to reach our shores.  After lunch at the Point, travel to the Little Karoo over the Robinson Pass. Visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch and the Cango Ostrich Farm.

Overnight in the Schoemanspoort farming area nearby, where you will enjoy Cango wine and ostrich fillets followed by stargazing.

DAY 3:  –  08h00

Take the first tour through the Cango Caves, still one of South Africa’s foremost natural wonders, before visiting some of the “Volstruis Paleise” and other historical buildings in Oudtshoorn.

Very early morning optional extras (for our own account) are hot-air ballooning or a visit to the meerkat Man.

Return to PE with lunch taken en-route. There are three vastly different routes back to PE.

The choice is yours –

Option 1 – via Outeniqua Pass to George, Victoria Bay, Wilderness Beach, Knysna and Tsitsikamma.

Option 2 – via de Rust, the Karoo, Uniondale, Avontuur, and the Langkloof.

Option 3 – via de Rust, the Karoo, Willowmore, Steytlerville and Uitenhage.

Arrive back in PE around 18:30
